|Despi Delite Bakery in Seattle (Karlo G via Yelp)|
FOOD & DRINKWhile some larger doughnut shop chains get all the attention, you just might miss one of Seattle’s best independent bakeries. The Despi Delite Bakery has been in operation for almost 30 years on Beacon Hill and is run by the Despi family. Now, one member of that family has ventured north opening his own bakery. Christian Despi’s new store recently opened in Everett and serves up the same quality pastries (both savory and sweet), four-tiered fondant wedding cakes, croissants, empanadas, cookies, breads and more.
Those who have never visited before, one thing you’ll be sure to notice right away is the amount of purple-colored treats in the display case. The Ube Cake, Ube Doughnuts and Ube Bread are all made with a purple-colored type of yam that is often used in Filipino baking. Fans swear by it and they are just as pretty to look at as they are tasty to eat.
