SHOPSThe Hands of the World gift shop has been a staple at the Pike Place Market for time now. The fair trade gift shop helps to support those in developing countries by purchasing many of their products directly from the craftspeople themselves. “By supporting development projects and cooperatives the craftspeople receive a fair price for their labor, in addition to other valuable services such as: child and medical care, skill development, and education which will provide a better future for them and their families,” says the store’s.
While not everything in the store comes from these sources, the owners are vigilant about helping these artisans as much as they can. Here you’ll find African folk art, sterling silver jewelry and an impressive scarf collection, but there is so much more to see as well.
Hands of the World is located “down the ramp from City Fish” in the Pike Place Market at 1501 Pike Pl. #428, Seattle, WA 98101. They are open from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. from January-April. 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. from June-December. Sundays they are open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
