Lombardi’s Italian Restaurant in Everett is officially closed on Christmas, but will stay open for some very special guests reports The Herald.
Now for their second year, the restaurant is performing a second performance of serving a free meal in style for those in the community.
“Because we’re closed on Christmas, we decided to take part of that day to do something for the community,” said Andrew Jorden, the restaurant’s private dining and catering manager.
Last year, Lombardi’s prepared and served 150 meals and this year, they expect the demand to be over 300. As was the case last year, most of the Lombardi’s staff are volunteering to serve as volunteers for the day serving up plates of pot roast, ham, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad and desserts from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. At least 25-30 volunteers from the local community will be joining them to help as well.
As if that wasn’t enough Lombardi’s has been collecting gifts for teens living at the Cocoon House and hairstylists will set up outside in front of the restaurant to provide free haircuts and trims under a tented area warmed by propane heaters. Even Everett Transit is getting into the act by providing free bus service to and from the restaurant from downtown Everett.
And what happens to any of the leftover food? Lombardi’s plans to pack up leftovers and hand them out to people out on the streets.
