New Nutcracker Show Waltzes in Seattle

George Balanchine's The Nutcracker. (Pacific Northwest Ballet)
DANCE
After 32 seasons of The Nutcracker featuring the art of children’s author Maurice Sendak, The Pacific Northwest Ballet acquired George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker in 2015 which gives the ballet show a fresh new take on the genre. The new show runs from November 25-December 28, 2016.

Based on 1816 tale of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by E.T.A. Hoffman and featuring the music of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, George Balanchine has decribed the show like this: “The Nutcracker at our theater is for children young and old. That is, for children and for adults who are children at heart. Because, if an adult is a good person, in his heart he is still a child. In every person the best, the most important part is that which remains from his childhood.”

The staging features new designs by another renowned children’s author and illustrator, Ian Falconer, who takes Balanchine staging forward into the 21st century, while the staging by Fugate, Boal, and Whittle affirms the heritage of a tradition reaching back to 1892 and the grandeur of the Imperial era.

Value performance tickets start at $25 and will be sold out soon. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the box office at (206) 441-2424.

The Pacific Northwest Ballet is located at 301 Mercer Street, Seattle, WA 98109.
